Spring Term Highlights – Community Music in Action!

As the days grow longer and the sounds of spring fill the air, we’re reflecting on a fantastic term with our community music groups—Melody Makers, Appleby Beginners, T-Brass, and No Bars. Over the past three months, we’ve seen incredible progress, new friendships formed, and plenty of musical milestones achieved.

Melody Makers and Appleby Beginners

For our youngest musicians, this term has been all about developing their rhythm, notation, and aural skills in fun and engaging ways. Activities like name games, rhythm cards, and our favourite notation challenge, Stavageddon, have helped players build confidence in their musical abilities.

Our repertoire this term featured well-loved pieces such as Rocket Ship, Limbo Rock, Cha Cha Cha, and Boogie Wonderland. Movement, clapping, and singing played a big part in making learning feel natural and enjoyable. A highlight was getting parents involved—some even took on the challenge of learning Rocket Ship alongside their children!

T-Brass & No Bars

For our more advanced players, teamwork and musicality were key themes this term. Through call-and-response warm-ups, rhythm exercises, and detailed discussions on style and dynamics, the groups developed their technical skills while preparing for performances.

The setlist included Marching Marines, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Let Me Entertain You, with regular recordings helping players fine-tune their performances. These efforts culminated in mini concerts, where family members were treated to fantastic showcases of progress and enthusiasm.

Celebrating Achievments

One of the joys of this term has been seeing our musicians grow in confidence and ability. Over the 13 weeks, we’ve had:

  • 168 total attendances across four weekly sessions

  • 21 badges awarded for performance, rhythm, and music reading

  • 4 mini performances, giving players the chance to shine in front of family and friends

With ages ranging from 4 to 65, our groups are a true reflection of community spirit—where music brings people together, no matter their background or experience level.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the summer term, we’re excited to build on these achievements, welcome new players, and continue sharing the joy of music. A huge thank you to all our musicians, parents, and supporters for making this term such a success!

Stay tuned for more updates, and if you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s to another season of music-making!
