Led by D+B director Julie Hoggarth, the KSSB Adult Beginner Brass and the Class of ’23 is a truly inspiring group of people. Many of the band picked up an instrument 18 months ago and have really shown what can be achieved in that time. We are truly proud of them. The Class of ’23 are just as amazing and every player brings additional skills and energy.
This group of players are daily overcoming barriers to playing. These range from general anxiety (learning an instrument, performing in public, high expectations etc etc) to sight and hearing loss, mobility challenges and dyslexia.
Which makes it all the more amazing that we’ve been able to take on new initiatives such as taking the band to nurseries to give youngsters a musical head start.
This is a true collaboration: Drum and Brass, Kirkby Stephen Silver Band and our players work together to find the best ways to solve issues.
What to expect in a 2 hr session:
A warm up
A splash of music theory
Playing 3 or 4 pieces
A cup of tea/coffee and social time
The option to visit the L’al Nook for a swift half, after rehearsal!
Teaching format: face to face at the Kirkby Stephen Band Hut. Nearby parking is available.
