Come and have a go at Barrow Brass Fest!
Drum and Brass will be at Barrow Brass Fest with fun, friendly taster workshops where you can pick up an instrument and discover what making music is all about.
No previous experience is needed—just come along, make some noise and see if brass could be for you!
There will also be performances from brass bands and young musicians from across Furness and Cumbria, plus an exhibition celebrating the legendary Vickers Works Band.

It’s not all about winning—but celebrating a trophy now and then feels pretty good!
Winning trophies isn’t what CYBB is all about. We’re far more interested in helping young musicians grow in confidence, challenge themselves, make friends and enjoy performing together.
But after all that hard work, there’s nothing wrong with celebrating an achievement every now and again!
Competitions give our players an exciting goal to work towards and an opportunity to experience the buzz of performing at their very best. Whatever the result, it’s the teamwork, commitment and progress made along the way that matter most—but we’ll admit, bringing home a little silverware feels pretty good too!

What are we doing for brass bands?
We’re helping bands build strong foundations for the future.
Through Pathways to Participation, we’re working with Brass Bands England to provide governance training and support for participating bands. From good policies and effective committees to developing sustainable ways of working, it’s about giving the people behind our bands the knowledge and confidence they need to thrive.
Because strong brass bands need more than great players — they need strong, supported organisations behind them too.

Of course, CYBB is about making music—but it’s also about the friendships formed along the way.
Bringing together young brass and percussion players from across Cumbria gives members the chance to meet people who share their interests, support one another and become part of a welcoming musical community. Rehearsals, performances and events aren’t only opportunities to develop as a player; they’re chances to make memories and build friendships that can last far beyond the final note.
