DOING MUSIC DIFFERENTLY
An instrument in every pair of hands that wants one.Drum and Brass supports music-making in communities that are otherwise under-served and under-represented in Cumbria and beyond. We are asking for help to keep going, and to reach further.
GET INVOLVED
Four ways to help. Pick the one that fits.
Every one of these keeps a player in a chair. None of them is more welcome than the others.
💰
Give money
Once, or monthly. Regular giving is what we value most, because it lets us commit to a term of sessions before the funding lands.
🎵
Want to donate an instrument?
The most useful thing you can do is turn up. Joining a group is support too, and start or restart your musical journey
Volunteer
You do not need to read music. Most of what keeps us running is chairs, tea, lifts, spreadsheets and someone on the door who smiles.
Skills we always need: driving, fundraising, admin, photography, repairs
🎸
Come and play
The most useful thing you can do is turn up. Joining a group is support too, and it costs you nothing but a Tuesday evening.
Why it matters
“I love the fact I can meet my friends and play, there’s just nowhere else like that around here”
Cornet player, 13.

CASE STUDY
From beginner to leader
D joined Cumbria Youth Brass Band in 2024 as a quiet beginner trombone player. Now aged 15, he is Trombone Section Leader, one of the first to volunteer for performances, and has joined our Local Heroes youth leadership programme.
Along the way he has built lasting friendships and found a real sense of belonging through music. That is the whole thing, in one person.
