Another festive engagement for our Friday Brass gr Another festive engagement for our Friday Brass group. Today they were at Dinky Dales nursery to bring some music to the youngest members of our community!
Raven and Julie are sharing their practices today— Raven and Julie are sharing their practices today— both are working on 'Master's in this Hall', a piece they are rehearsing for Kirkby Stephen Silver Band. Raven has the solo part and Julie has the second. Brass band music can be quite complex, and fitting all the different parts can be challenging. Raven says, "I like to play along to recordings on YouTube to give me a feel for how it all comes together, though as you can see, I lost my way a bit with the structure of this one." Our youth leader Ev started learning brass with Dr Our youth leader Ev started learning brass with Drum and Brass 4 years ago. Now she is a leading player with Kirkby Stephen Silver Band and is a youth mentor in our children’s brass group, Melody Makers. She says "I love helping the younger ones and seeing them come to rehearsals.".
On Saturday some of the players from our KSSB Frid On Saturday some of the players from our KSSB Friday beginners group made their live debut at Kirkby Stephen's light switch on event. They joined Kirkby Stephen Silver Band and held their own through two carols. These players only picked up their instruments for the first time in October and we're so proud of the progress they have made. Thanks as always to Kirkby Stephen Silver Band for supporting Drum and Brass in so many wonderful ways. Well done everyone!
