Learning to play a musical instrument with your local brass band  is not just about mastering notes and rhythms-  it’s also a great way to feel a part of your local community. Brass bands have a long tradition of brining communities together, and when you play in a band it’s not just about making music, it’s also about unlocking confidence, making life long friendships, and boosting your brain power. And the most important thing is that anyone can get involved, no matter what their age or experience.

That’s the spirit behind Brass at the Castle, a weekend long festival celebrating Cumbria’s brass heritage and the power of music to change lives. Taking place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May, the festival will offer hands on workshops, beginner friendly taster sessions, and inspiring performances which hope to encourage new player to get involved and grow grass roots talent. Studies have shown that learning a musical instrument improves memory, reduces stress, and enhances co-ordination and we believe these amazing benefits should be available to all, and that your local brass band is the perfect starting point.

Whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time, rediscovering an old hobby, or just coming to listen, Brass at the Castle is your opportunity to connect with the life changing and uplifting power of music.  With seasoned players mentoring the next generation, and a welcoming atmosphere, the event will show just how inclusive and inspiring brass bands can be.

So if you’ve ever thought of learning an instrument, or you want to get your children started, then come along. It could be the beginning of an exciting new adventure.
