Brass at the Castle returns this summer
A vibrant two-day festival taking place in the beautiful grounds of Brougham Hall, Penrith. The festival is dedicated to celebrating and evolving the region’s rich brass tradition. After the incredible response to our inaugural event in 2024, we’re back with bigger ambitions, deeper community connections, and plans to unite brass music from across the region.
This year’s festival will bring together over 300 players from 11 bands, pairing seasoned performers with emerging talent to create something truly special. Our mission is threefold: to unite local bands in collaboration rather than competition; to inspire and develop the next generation of brass musicians; and to welcome new audiences into the world of brass playing.
Working with fantastic partners including the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), 4 Bars Rest, and Penrith and Stomping Ground, Brass at the Castle 2025 will offer a packed programme of performances, workshops, and interactive experiences. From beginner-friendly ‘have-a-go’ sessions to advanced masterclasses, we’re creating pathways for new players while giving a greater voice to young musicians already making their mark.
Community-focused activities will shine a light on Cumbria’s unique brass heritage, with storytelling, drop-in crafts, and showcases of newly-formed youth bands. By expanding our workshops, strengthening skills, and inviting families to explore brass music up close, we hope to inspire a new generation of players and listeners alike.
Brass at the Castle 2025 isn’t just a festival — it’s a movement. A celebration of grassroots musical excellence, community pride, and a bold vision for the future of brass music in Cumbria and beyond.
