As our Local Heroes project comes to an end, we've As our Local Heroes project comes to an end, we've been looking back at everything we've achieved over the past year – and it's been far more than we ever imagined. What started as a project to train community arts volunteers became something much bigger. We watched people who doubted themselves discover confidence, leadership skills and a belief that they really could make a difference. Together they organised events, supported young people, developed new resources, mentored others and even launched new community initiatives. One of the biggest lessons we learned was this: the biggest barriers weren't ability – they were confidence, anxiety and feeling that they weren't "good enough". Once people felt safe, supported and valued, they achieved incredible things. We're incredibly proud of every one of our six Local Heroes. Each brought their own strengths, creativity and kindness to the project, and the impact they're continuing to have in their communities will last long after the programme has finished. A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for believing in this project, to everyone who supported it, and especially to our participants for trusting us, supporting one another and proving that community arts can change lives. This may be the end of the current Local Heroes Project, but it certainly isn't the end of the stories it has created.
