The Brass at Bont tradition is inextricably linked to the Pontardulais Town Band, an ensemble that emerged in the late 19th century from the heart of the South Wales industrial landscape.

Originally formed by workers in the local tin, steel, and coal industries, the band has evolved from its humble beginnings in the 1870s into one of Britain’s most dynamic brass organizations. Its community role is foundational; based in the "Bont" heartland, the band family—including the Brass@Bont Academy—serves as a vital hub for musical education and local pride, nurturing talent across all ages and bridging the gap between historical heritage and modern performance.

What makes the band and its signature events unique is the "Bont Band Family" spirit, which balances a high level of competitive excellence in the National First Section with a deeply rooted commitment to the village. From its early days leading massive philanthropic parades to its modern role hosting "Brasstacular" concerts and educational workshops, the band remains a living testament to the resilience of Welsh brass culture, proving that a group born in the workshops of the Industrial Revolution can continue to innovate and inspire as a professional-standard community institution.
