MEET OUR PATHWAYS TO PARTICIPATION PARTNER BANDS! MEET OUR PATHWAYS TO PARTICIPATION PARTNER BANDS! We’re delighted to announce the brilliant bands joining us for Pathways to Participation, our exciting project funded by Brass Bands England: Whitehaven Brass Band, Workington Youth Brass Band, Burneside Brass Training Band, Kirkby Stephen Silver Band, Holborne Hill Royal Brass Band, Ireleth P-Buzz Band, Shap Community Band Together, we’ll be creating more opportunities for people to discover brass playing, develop their skills and experience the joy of making music as part of a band. We’re thrilled to be working alongside these fantastic organisations to strengthen Cumbria’s brass community and build welcoming, accessible pathways into banding. Young brass players wanted! The new Cumbria Yout Young brass players wanted! The new Cumbria Youth Brass Band season begins this Sunday, 20 September, and there’s still time to join us! Our first rehearsal will take place at Keswick School from 1pm–4pm, bringing together young brass players from across Cumbria for an afternoon of music-making, new friendships and plenty of opportunities to develop their playing. CYBB welcomes players of all abilities, with no audition required—just bring your instrument and plenty of enthusiasm! We would particularly love to hear from trombone and baritone players, although young players from every brass section are very welcome. Members will rehearse and perform together throughout the 2026/27 season, supported by experienced musicians and visiting specialists. They’ll develop their confidence, musicianship and leadership skills while working towards performances and events including Cumbria’s Big Brass Weekend. Annual membership is £72, and rehearsals take place at venues across Cumbria. What are we doing for brass bands? We're helping t What are we doing for brass bands? We're helping to create the next generation of brass players. For brass bands to thrive, we need to make sure new people continue to discover the joy of playing. Through our work in schools, beginner groups and community projects, we're giving children and families opportunities to pick up a brass instrument, learn to play and experience making music with others. And importantly, we're creating pathways that can help those new players take their next steps into training bands, youth bands and their local community bands.
What are we doing for brass bands? We’re creating What are we doing for brass bands? We’re creating opportunities for young musicians to come together and make music. Working with the Cumbria Community Orchestra Collective, we’re helping bring young players from across Cumbria together during the school day – giving them the chance to play alongside others, develop their skills, build confidence and experience the excitement of being part of something bigger. By connecting young musicians and giving them more opportunities to play, we’re helping nurture a love of music that can continue into local brass bands and community music-making for years to come.
